Kappa's Abroad : Marina Phillips

1. Where are you studying abroad?
Brisbane, Australia

2. Why did you choose to study abroad in Australia?
I chose to study here becuase I had heard so many great things about it and about how beautiful it was. Plus, it is really far away and not a lot of people have been here so it was something different.

3. What was one of your favorite experiences
of studying abroad?
So far one of my favorite experiences was a hike that my friends and I did up Mt. Coot tha in Brisbane. It was really hard and steep, but once we got to the top it was amazing. We could see the whole city and it was unreal. Although, every experience that I have had so far has been amazing. Australia is so beautiful and filled with so many things to do.

 4. Any stories that you have to share?
One story I have to share is that my friend and I were going to her place after our night out because I was going to be staying over. She didn't have her key on her so we were waiting for her housemates to come home. We were sitting outside in her outdoor living room, when we started hearing a hissing sound. It was a possum defending its territory. So we started making noise and being loud to try to scare it off. It stopped hissing. Then, like 20 minutes later it started again. So we made more noise, only this time it started hissing back. It was starting to get really scary because we couldn't see where it was since it was so dark. We ran out into the middle of the street where the light was and it kept hissing at us. So, we ran down the street to the main street, where we ran into her roommates. They were able to open the door and we were safely inside. The hissing possum was so terrifying!

5. What was your ‘motto’ for studying abroad?
My motto for studying abroad was don't wait. If I have time off or free time, I do something, because I don't want to get to the end of my trip and realize I didn't do everything I wanted to.

6.  Do you wish you could stay longer, or are you ready to come home?
I totally wish I could stay longer. I can't believe I am coming home in 2 months! I have seriously thought about moving here after graduation. The people are so nice and the lifestyle is so relaxing. I already know I am going to be seriously upset when I have to come home.

Welcome to the Class of Fall '17

This past fall Kappa Tau Gamma welcomed 17 new girls into the sisterhood!  Fall Recruitment Chair Leilani organized a Jungle themed recruitment with events such as speed dating, cupcake mingle, day at the zoo, ice cream social, and mocktails! Also, shout out to our PNM Educator for the fall, Britany, who helped the girls become sisters. Thanks to the tremendous help of Britany and the rest of KTG, we were able to grow almost 50% this Spring.  All the sisters are very excited to see what the rest of Spring 2018 holds for us!

Alumni Tea: April 29, 2017

On April 29, 2017, we held our Biennial Alumni Tea. We were all so excited to see our alumni! This event really shows how the bond of sisterhood lasts well beyond those four years at Catholic. It was great to share stories about each others pledge process and how things have changed but stayed the same in KTG. We are so grateful that this sisterhood still remains on campus as the single standing sorority! We look forward to seeing Alumni again at Homecoming and at Tea in 2019!
