Kappa's Abroad : Mikala Fortin

1. Where are you studying abroad?
Barcelona, Spain

2. Why did you choose to study abroad in Spain?
I wanted to study in a place that the majority of the people speak Spanish because that is my minor. Barcelona just made sense to me because I love the ocean and the whole city is on the water. Plus being in Europe I have the chance to travel around on the weekends to different cities and countries.

3. What was one of your favorite experiences
of studying abroad?
One of my favorite experiences was actually the FC Barcelona soccer game I went to a few weeks ago! It sounds so simple, but I really loved it because I felt so at home and connected to the game. Seeing everyone so passionate about something so important to the Barcelona culture made me really feel like a Spaniard instead of just a tourist.

 4. Any stories that you have to share?
Nothing too exciting in particular but advice to everyone abroad: expect the unexpected! So many things have gone wrong with travel and plans this semester, but in the end it really just makes more memories that you can look back and laugh about with your friends.

5. What was your ‘motto’ for studying abroad?
My motto is definitely from the great classic Drake---YOLO. Being abroad just made me realize how much I need to live up every experience that I go through like its my last. I am so lucky and blessed to be able to travel around Europe at this age, and I never want to look back and see that I passed up great opportunities to do different activities while I am here. Anytime I feel like just laying in bed, or start missing home, I think "you only live once" and I never regret going out and doing different things!

6.  Do you wish you could stay longer, or are you ready to come home?
I'm so torn! It is bittersweet. I leave 1 week from tomorrow and it is crazy to think about. I LOVE Spain, but I really do miss my friends. If I could take them all here with me I would! I am excited to come home but I know after a week i'll be ready to travel back to Spain. Hopefully one day I can come back and live here again!

Welcome to the Class of Fall '17

This past fall Kappa Tau Gamma welcomed 17 new girls into the sisterhood!  Fall Recruitment Chair Leilani organized a Jungle themed recruitment with events such as speed dating, cupcake mingle, day at the zoo, ice cream social, and mocktails! Also, shout out to our PNM Educator for the fall, Britany, who helped the girls become sisters. Thanks to the tremendous help of Britany and the rest of KTG, we were able to grow almost 50% this Spring.  All the sisters are very excited to see what the rest of Spring 2018 holds for us!

Relay For Life

On April 21st, Catholic University celebrated its 10th Relay for Life on our campus! We had a ton of girls come out and fundraise, and together we raised over $3,000! Kappa Tau Gamma had the 2nd donations from a student organization! We all came together on Friday night to support Relay for Life and had a ton of fun! Our table activity was stress balls which was a hit among many other participants. We enjoyed live performances and rallied together for loved ones who either were suffering or are suffering from cancer. It was a great bonding event for all of us for an even greater cause! I am so proud of all the sister of KTG for the dedication to service and their hard work fundraising for such an awesome and meaningful event!
